Does off setting carbon through making payments to "carbon trusts" actually make a difference?

With all the global warming debate raging, these guys say it does not??? Are they just mad man or is there science actually valid? They actually have a scientific model on it... way over my head though. See In depth below.

agreed - if everyone just traveled less we would be much better off.
Having said that the idea of tradeable carbon allowances seems good to me - especially for big business ...

Does it really make a difference - well i amsure it is better than nothing, but not as good just not travelling needlessly or wasting energy that doesn't need to be wasted ...
