Will the access to drinking water become the main problem of the mankind
ref #102
Many people believe that the access to drinking water will become such a great problem for the humans that even wars in the future will occur because of water. Do you share this opinion ?

10not such a good explanation there, sun on high? pierce the film? ...i take it you mean through condensation though yea? this still depends on the weather/climate where you are or if your near the sea - same goes again... But yeah, i agree, but its a slow process for not so much water
wars might be fought, as the poor may be left behind without the technologies to access clean water - except if the poor cannot even access the technology to clean water, they are going to have a hard time fighting a war over it a) without being quashed by superior technology rather quickly and b) without clean water itself...... dunno, i think any 'wars' would more likely be campaign wars (or the sort) fighting for the poor and fought by people within slightly more well off areas.... but then these wars could turn to revolution wars.... hmmm fortune telling its a hard grey area!
guestimation
being optimistic I don't think water wars will occur. 7/10 of the planet is water. patents on clean water technology, desalination solutions and energy to do this - thats the blue touch paper. personally, I'd like to teach the world to sing, to sing a song a song in perfect harmony....
But do you think that those technologies will be equalitably distributed? Will the people that need them to most have access to them? With patents... I doubt it.
I have to say I agree with Tom, there is so much water in the world - its nots that hard to remove the salt from it!
Here in Oz this is a really hot topic. The current drought has made us look at water as a currency - do you know it takes 5000 litres of water to produce alitre of milk, and 30000 litres to make a Big Mac!!! So its not just drinking water - we have to figure out how to economise on water for food and industry too.
While I agree with you in general I'm not sure about the 5000 litres of water for 1 pint of milk concept.
Surely most of the water would be re-entering the water cycle? cows pee etc ...
And at what point do you start the counter? at the point the cow was born? its mother? do you count the water used to wash the farmers truck in which he transported the cows? where do you stop?
not being funny, just that i have seen these kind of stats before and they just dont make any sense - and if anything give the "non-believers" more ammo :)

You can get your own water by using some cling film or any plastic and a bucket, Shit, you could even use some empty coke bottles. Just stick them in the sun on high for about a day but remember to pierce the film before drinking.
